Ottawa looks to settle with residential school survivors who were abused by other students

The Canadian federal government is working on settlements with former residential school survivors who were abused by other students. These students were not included in the compensation process. A separate avenue will be set up to help survivors receive compensation. According to some government officials, 98% of claims through the Independent Assessment Process (IAP) have received compensation , but acknowledges some cases fall outside of the parameters.
